Mrs Inonge Wina, Vice President of Zambia

Zambian Vice President Inonge Wina, Keynote Speaker, CLC 2017, Melbourne, AustraliaInonge Wina is the first woman to hold the position of Vice President in Zambia.

In 2001 Inonge Wina was elected as Member of Parliament of Nalolo Constituency as a candidate of the United Party for National Development. She was elected chairperson of a number of portfolio committees, including the Committee on Human Rights Gender and Governance, and Women Parliamentary Caucus.

In the 2006 presidential and general elections, Wina re-contested her Nalolo seat as a candidate of the United Liberal Party. She lost the election and petitioned the results in the High Court; the case was ruled in her favour but later overturned by the Supreme Court.

image1Appointed Special Public Prosecutor, Punjab, Special Public Prosecutor, Assam and Special Counsel by Delhi Police to prosecute ‘A’ grade terrorists and insurgents. He also conducted prosecution in cases arising from Operation Black Thunder, attempt on the life of J.F. Rebeiro (former DGP, Punjab), Talwara Bank Dacoity and others.

Represented the Union and the States before more than 10 Constitutional Benches in the Supreme Court of India, including the batch of petitions involving the constitutional validity of the TADA (Prevention) Acts, cases arising out of the assassination of former Prime Minister Sh. Rajiv Gandhi, cases arising out of the Bombay Blasts, cases arising out of the Calcutta Bomb Blasts as well as important cases against various terrorist organizations such as JKLF, LTTE, PWG as well as several communal organizations that were banned in the wake of the Babri Masjid demolition.
