Dear Delegate,

The Law Institute of Victoria is delighted to welcome you to Melbourne for the 20th Commonwealth Law Conference in 2017.

We might be on the far side of the world for many of you, but Melbourne is a truly global city and we are confident you’ll feel welcome and inspired by what we have to offer here.

The conference theme for 2017 is “Thriving in a Global World: Building on the Rule of Law”. The subtext is that it is an exciting time to be a lawyer, but the challenges in a fast-changing world are many. The conference is a great opportunity to hear how others are meeting those challenges and thriving as practitioners in a changing profession.

We have a great line-up of speakers from across the profession talking about a range of legal issues. There will also be many social events that will give you the chance to meet friends and colleagues from around the world and share your stories, inspirations and ideas.

During and after the program, please come and enjoy our city, deservedly known as the cultural capital of Australia. Melbourne also has some great shopping, stunning architecture, beautiful parks and gardens, is close to marvellous beaches and has, we are told, a very lively nightlife. It’s worth staying on for a while, or coming over a little earlier.

Looking forward to see you all here.
